History:
Mills County Public Health (MCPH), established in the 1970s, serves as the local public health authority for Mills & Fremont Counties. Governed by the Mills County Board of Health & Fremont County Board of Health, MCPH is dedicated to protecting health, preventing disease, and enhancing the quality of life for all residents. With a focus on strengthening rural public health infrastructure, MCPH provides prevention-oriented, family-centered, and accessible care.
Mission Statement:
MCPH protects and promotes the health of all rural residents by focusing on prevention, equity, and access. We support healthy aging, strong families, and thriving communities by addressing the social and environmental factors that impact health-like housing, transportation, food security, and access to care. Our programs serve people across the lifespan, from newborns to older adults, with practical, high-quality services tailored to rural needs.
Vision Statement:
A healthier, more connected Southwest Iowa where all rural residents have the opportunity to live safe, healthy, and fulfilling lives. MCPH envisions a future where every community, regardless of size or location, is supported by a responsive and collaborative public health system that prioritizes prevention, reduces disparities, and strengthens rural health infrastructure.
